'the poet of the serpentine Northern Rivers' and became more and more abbreviated.)

About Me


Born and grew Launceston, Tasmania. Won prize for 'most original entry' in High School magazine (a long poem) at the age of 13. Completed final two years of High School in Mildura, Victoria. Won State-wide Shakespeare Memorial Society essay competition at 17. Lived many years in Melbourne before going happily sub-tropical in 1994. Attended University of Melbourne, majoring in English Literature and Philosophy, 1958-62. Career in librarianship 1962-1980. Helped start Poets Union of Australia in the late seventies. Pioneered poetry workshops in prisons in the early eighties. Formed Word of Mouth Poetry Theatre with Anita Sinclair, Ken Smeaton and Malcolm Brodie, 1986.
